Fernanda Brandão and How It All Started

I moved to New York in 2009 to attend Parsons’ Associate program in Fashion Marketing and later transferred to FIT, where I earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising Management.

My professional journey in Marketing and Sales in New York began at Diane Von Furstenberg, where I interned in their Marketing department and was later hired to work in sales. Since then, I have been the NY correspondent for a fashion blog hosted by Glamour magazine (Brazil), and have worked with multiple startups and companies in the fashion, beauty, interior design, wedding, property management, and cultural preservation sectors.

I love fashion, but above all, I love and appreciate beauty and creative ideas that make me wish they were part of my world. This applies to fashion, art, interior design & architecture; a book with a great and interesting story; a well-developed business project or concept; great music, movies, shows… Anything and everything that can intrigue and move me.

I created this blog to be a space where we can talk about inspiring fashion, culture, travel, retail, and ingenious business stories, which can potentially turn into tips about New York and the places I’ve explored throughout the years since moving here.

Where the 917 Diaries Name Came From 

917 is one of the New York area codes and the number associated with the island of Manhattan.

“Diaries” came to mind when I thought about sharing New York stories and experiences from multiple perspectives. This blog was never meant to be about me alone; I wanted to publish interviews and collaborations where New Yorkers could talk about their experiences, tips, and stories – their Manhattan diaries – or, in this case, their 917 Diaries.

It’s very important to me to explore and talk about New York from diverse perspectives. This is what the city is about, and I wouldn’t be able to write posts and offer tips the way I wanted to if it weren’t for all the great and inspiring people willing to share a deeper glimpse into their worlds.
